About IO 2007
IO 2007 will educate ophthalmologists and other medical professionals about the problem of eye disease in the developing world and how to be part of the solution. This conference will provide valuable information for those new to medical missions as well as those already volunteering abroad. The course objectives are to:

Understand ocular disease and treatment in the developing world
Gain insight into making effective volunteer medical trips
Learn to better care for international patients seen in your own practice


IO 2007 is being held at the same time as the 58th Annual Dogwood Festival, which celebrates the state flower of Virginia with an array of unique cultural events. Come enjoy spring in Charlottesville!

IO 2007 Conference Sponsors
IRIS: the International Response to Improve Sight is a nonprofit organization striving to end preventable blindness in the developing world through education, equipment donation and encouragement of native health professionals.

The University of Virginia (UVa) Department of Ophthalmology has been providing outstanding eye care for more than 100 years. With IO 2007, the UVa Eye Department continues its tradition of service to Virginia and beyond.


Registration Information
Accommodations
A block of rooms has been reserved under "International Ophthalmology" at the UVa Medical Center Courtyard by Marriott (434-977-1700) and at the Boar's Head Inn (434-296-2181). The conference room blocks will be released on March 19.

Registration
Registration may be completed online, by fax or by mail. For online registration, go to http://www.healthsystem.virginia.edu/internet/cme/live.cfm, and find the Register button next to the International Ophthalmology 2007 listing. Online registration fees must be paid by either VISA or MasterCard.

Registration Fees
The conference registration fee is $250 for the combined Thursday and Friday sessions. Fees include syllabus materials, meals and refreshments. Registration for individual sessions is permitted ($100 for Thursday session, reception and dinner; $150 for Friday session, including a continental breakfast). Guests are welcome to attend the Thursday evening cocktail reception and dinner ($50 fee). The registration deadline is April 17, 2007.

Payment is required with registration. An exception is made for institutional checks; however, these must be received by April 17. If payment is not received by April 17, you will NOT be registered for the conference. You will receive written confirmation (by e-mail) upon receipt of your payment.

Pre-registration for this conference will close two business days (three days for online registrations) prior to the conference date. Please call to confirm that on-site registration will be available.

Confirmations and Cancellations
Upon receipt of registration and payment, registrant will receive an e-mail confirmation. If payment is not received by April 17, space will not be reserved. Registration fees will be refunded, less a $50 administrative fee, for cancellations received by April 4. No registration fee refunds will be granted for cancellations made after April 4. The UVa School of Medicine reserves the right to cancel CME activities if necessary. In that case, the full registration fee will be refunded. All other expenses incurred associated with this CME activity are the sole responsibility of the participant.

Special Needs
The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 requires that all individuals, regardless of their disabilities, have equal access. The Office of Continuing Medical Education at the UVa School of Medicine is pleased to assist participants with special needs. Written requests must be received 30 days before the conference date. Continuing Education Credit
ACCME Accreditation
The University of Virginia School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) for physicians. UVa's School of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 6 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Each physician should claim only those credits that he/she actually spent in the activity.

UVa's Office of Continuing Medical Education requires that all participants at live CME activities sign attendance sheets daily to confirm participation in the CME activity for that day. Certificates of attendance, designating the maximum number of hours of participation, are distributed to each participant at the CME activity. Participants are responsible for accurately tracking their actual participation at live events.

Continuing Education Units
Also, UVa's School of Medicine awards an 0.1 Continuing Education Unit (CEU) per contact hour to each non-physician participant who successfully completes this educational activity. The CEU is a nationally recognized unit of measure for continuing education and training activities that meet specific educational planning requirements. UVa's School of Medicine maintains a permanent record of participants who have been awarded CEUs.
